ROMANA SOUTUS is a playwright, producer, and performer based in New York City. Soutus graduated in May 2014 cum laude from Fordham University's prestigious Theatre Program with a focus on Performance. For the past six years, she has performed and produced at the experimental theatre institution La MaMa in New York City. Her plays include Hyena, (performed at La MaMa, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and “Best Experimental Show” at the United Solo Festival) and Martyrs (premiered at La MaMa in April 2018). Soutus is a 2017 Fellow of the Lambda Literary Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices.

Soutus has hit upon something vital here, and the weird, visceral, female-infused magic Martyrs conjures is the sort of thing more theatre creators would do well to emulate.

‘ROMANA SOUTUS GIVES US A PRETTY SMILE, BUT BY THE END OF THE PERFORMANCE IT FEELS LIKE SHE HAS EATEN US ALIVE”
— THE SICK OF THE FRINGE
‘ROMANA SOUTUS IS BRAVE ENOUGH TO UNLOCK MOMENTS OF PURE AND ALIVE ARTISTIC EXPRESSION. AND WHILE SHE MAY HAVE A PRETTY SMILE, HER WRITING WIELDS VERY SHARP TEETH.”
